we're back on wusa9 and this house fire spent three people to the hospital and there's not much left of that home. it broke out late this morning in a two-story home near lee highway. witnesses say one person jumped from the house to escape the flames and that is pretty much all that left. we do not know what started the fire. >> a guilty plea today for a local lawyer and entrepreneur

who was called a high-tech peeping tom. >> reporter: dennis pled guilty today to turning smoke detectors into spy cameras, trained on unsuspecting women. dennis allen is a high-tech entrepreneur who claims degrees from harvard, mit, and penn state. he is a landlord, too, for years renting rooms inside his chevy chase home to young professional women, who as these photos shown, he had been secretly video recording in their most private moments with intimate partners. sometimes through windows, sometimes using a spy camera hidden in what looked like a smoke detector. this tee tenant said she noticed them. >> the smoke detectors would beep, and mine didn't do anything. >> not only did she steal these women's privacy, he stole

event. you are a family of a person who was killed or injured and that is your frame of reference. you are being asked to do something on a national scale when your tragedy is really on a personal scale. >> steven was shot in the aurora movie theater last july. he said yesterday's bombings brought him back to that horrible day. the group is visiting the offices of senators trying to convince them to expand background checks. the families and victims of gun violence are worried that their issues will be pushed to the back burner. they are not letting that deter them one bit. >> a lot of these families, it's been many years. for virginia tech, it's been six years. >> at the u.s. capitol, peggy fox, wusa9. >> the virginia tech massacre left 33 people dead and 27 others injured. coping with disasters can
